This course focuses on the theory and advance skills necessary to provide basic care in an inpatient / hospital setting including pre-operative and post-operative care areas as Patient Care Technician/Assistant. Advanced patient care skills include setting up/maintaining a sterile field, assisting with wound care and management of drains, tracheostomy care, and providing care for the catheterized patient. Additional skills include oxygen administration, blood collection via venipuncture and capillary puncture, monitoring blood glucose levels, obtaining electrocardiogram (EKG) and setting up continuous cardiac monitoring as well as assist with disease and injury specific rehabilitation and caring for special patient populations such as surgical, obstetric, pediatric, and psychiatric patients. Final scope of practice to be determined based on employer’s policies and procedures. These skills are not permitted in the long-term care setting. Pre-requisite: Completion of CNA Program through Cadence Healthcare Training Solutions or be a registered CNA in good standing on the Indiana Registry and successfully complete a pre-admission written and skills assessment.
